Fluxes in Chlamydomonas reinhardtii

Marina Leer, Dr. Eva Grafahrend-Belau

The ongoing move to renewable energy resources has opened a vast variety of research programs worldwide. The group of our project partner Prof. Markus Pietzsch is engineering E. coli and the unicellular eukaryotic algae Chlamydomonas reinhardtii to produce various bioenergy compounds such as butanol. We are modeling the metabolism of these organisms, analyzing metabolic fluxes in the production strains, and thereby contributing to the identification of novel strategies to optimize the cell’s metabolism for biosynthesis of the desired products.
